Ronen Ben-Ami is Head of the infectious Diseases Department and Director of the National Mycology Reference Laboratory at the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center.
Dr. Ben-Ami received his M.D. from the Tel Aviv University, and went on to complete his residency in Internal Medicine at the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center and Mount Sinai Hospital, NY, and fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center. He did his post-doctoral fellowship at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, where he studied host-pathogen interactions involving Candida and Aspergillus species.
Dr. Ben-Ami’s research focuses on understanding innate and acquired mechanisms of resistance in pathogenic fungi. His group studies the epidemiology and virulence determinants of fungal pathogens
that are responsible for a significant burden of disease among immune-compromised patients. In addition, he leads the Antibiotic Stewardship program at the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, and has served as Chair of the Israeli Society for Infectious Diseases examination board committee.
Dr. Ben-Ami has co-authored over 110 scientific papers, book chapters and reviews.
